After you have picked out the perfect cage for your new sugar glider’s home, there are quite a few things you will need to buy to keep them happy and feeling at home. All products shown on this page can actually be purchase by clicking on their picture. It makes for easy browsing
This is probably an obvious one but I figured I would mention that when choosing bowls, try finding ones that are stainless steel. Most sugar gliders like to chew and if they were to chew on plastic bowls it could possibly harm them. As for their water, a normal water bottle meant for any small animal works great!
Also a quick tip for new owners: In the wild sugar gliders have to search for their food, make sure to change their food around the cage nightly, this helps keep their minds active. This is done at most zoos as a form on environment enrichment. You can also try hiding little bits of food such as digging a small hole in a branch and putting bee pollen or glider nectar inside it so they can dig it out!
Like most small animals, sugar gliders need some form of exercise. The easiest way to accommodate that need is not only by letting them come out and explore (supervised that is!) at least once a day, but also buying an exercise wheel. It is recommended that you buy at least 2 exercise wheels that are at least 11″ in diameter.
Make sure to have a couple hiding places throughout the cage for comfort. Also a hammock is great for your sugar gliders to cuddle up in for nap time. The Super Sleeper that is in the picture is great because it takes care of both of those needs. In case you are wondering why there are so many products with ferrets throughout this site, it’s because unfortunately there are not many websites geared for sugar gliders specifically. Ferrets and sugar gliders however can use a lot of the same toy type products!
Toys
Make sure to pick up toys for your sugar gliders to keep them active and to stimulate them mentally. Environment enrichment is very important for your sugar gliders to stay healthy and they will need all of these things to maintain a happy life in captivity.
